Many Northern Nevada employers ended the first quarter of 2010 with open positions on their staff.  In the month of March, It’s About Jobs at Nevadaworks.com collected 1951 new job postings in the thirteen counties of Northern Nevada.  As the economy begins to slowly start to show signs of a lasting recovery nothing is more important to the thousands of unemployed in our state than the question of “where are the jobs?”

But where are the jobs?  Nevadaworks’ labor market information from the month of March shows that the healthcare industry continues to grow.  Specialized and entry-level positions are in high demand among our regions local medical facilities.  

Another industry that is beginning to emerge from the recent downturn is Information Technology.  Companies all across the state are in need of talented individuals who understand the complexities of recent technologies.  Anyone with a strong interest in technology is encouraged to seek out local training providers to enhance their skills.  Specialized training can enable an individual to earn highly competitive wages in a high-demand occupation. 

Retail stores and restaurants also continue to move forward as various shopping centers are completed throughout the area.  Accounting and Auditing, Administrative Support, Banking and Financial Services, and skilled labor and trades are other industries that are showing signs of life.  

It is important to note that many job seekers today may not have experience in any of the fields above that are actively hiring.  Rather than think of what does not qualify you for a particular position, think about what your experience can bring to their team.  Understand that every new position requires “on the job training” and that employers are looking as much to personality and work ethic as they are education and experience.
